Project Introduction

The Sanjivan Coffee Project is a community-led agricultural initiative based in PAUWATHOK, SANGACHOKGADHI, SINDHUPALCHOK focused on reviving underutilized rural land through sustainable coffee cultivation.

The project began with a family-owned piece of ancestral land and a simple idea: to bring unused land back to life by growing coffee and create something meaningful for the community around it.

In 2025, Sanjivan took its first practical step by establishing 75 coffee plants, marking the completion of Phase 1 and the beginning of a long-term vision for community-based coffee farming, rural livelihood development, value-added processing, and agricultural tourism.

What is Sanjivan?

Sanjivan is more than a coffee farm, it's a Community project.

A project envisioned to transform my community into an agricultural ecosystem where land, people, agriculture, entrepreneurship, and tourism come together.

The project aims to begin with coffee cultivation and gradually develop into a model where local families can participate in production, processing, branding, and tourism, creating greater value within the community.

04 / Background and Need

Many rural communities in Nepal are experiencing increasing migration due to limited employment opportunities. As young people leave villages, agricultural land remains unused and local economies weaken.

Sanjivan Coffee Project was created with the belief that agriculture can become a modern, profitable, and dignified livelihood.

The project begins on family-owned land with the support of a retired police officer who was born in the village and remains deeply connected to the community. Together, the initiative aims to demonstrate that rural land can create opportunities when combined with knowledge, planning, and community participation.

Initial coffee plantation established with approximately 100 coffee plants.
Project established on privately owned family land in Sindhupalchok.
Initial phase focused on learning, experimentation, and creating a demonstration farm.
Long-term goal is to expand participation among neighboring households.
